Sometimes I wonder what is left to fight for? Fighting for stupid politicians who asked us to get out of this country? Fighting for the people who impose injustice to this country? I don't know. Stop culture of violence

OF LATE there have been so many horrifying murders committed all over the country. Victims being maimed or hacked to death either by individuals or groups of people occur almost every week and the perpetrators are getting bolder than ever.

Why is this so? Why are Malaysians so uptight even over trivial matters that can lead to misery?

Even students are into this. They beat up other student(s) over a stare, over a dare, over a pencil, a rubber or a ruler and, at times over girls.

At times they beat teachers, damage cars belonging to headmasters, intimidate parents and many a time cause serious damage to school property.

Malaysians are so highly strung that no amount of reasoning can defuse ugly situations.

We just refuse to give others the benefit of the doubt. We just refuse to respect the rights of others. We only think of ourselves as if there is no tomorrow. We have lost our self-respect and the respect for others.

The young look down on elders and the elders just cannot understand the young. Where and when have we lost the Malaysian values that have become our trademark?

There are so many reasons. Each factor contributes to the other and it is difficult to pinpoint any particular one.

But, one factor that contributes greatly to the degradation of human values amongst us Malaysians is video games. This alone has greatly influenced the young to commit all sorts of crimes because after playing the games for so long they tend to believe what they see.

Many may say I am wrong, as there are many other factors that make a person commit crime, and I agree with that. But video games have greatly influenced our values and swayed some into believing that fantasy is reality. There is nothing better to sway the young mind than a video game.

There are video games that are good for the young but the bad ones dominate the market.

I think as Malaysian society gets to be more advanced and sophisticated, it becomes somewhat of a challenge for some people just to survive. The stress, the pain, the difficulties, the daily grind and the challenges that go with progress have put some people in a position where reality is fantasy and fantasy is reality.

It honestly sounded like an excuse/reasoning you put in the essay you're trying to write for a SPM (O'Level) Bahasa Malaysia paper but in English. This is what the mainstream media wants us to think. This is how our educational system shape us to think. Is the game evil or is human brain/heart/soul evil? Most of the games are the good versus the evil kind although there is gore and blood and stuff. Well, do you kill a pig to eat pork? Do you kill a cow to have steak? Don't tell me it is done at the butcher's. So you wanna accuse the butcher for being cruel too? Okay my arguement is lame (might be due to the no. of years growing up in the Malaysian Educational System). I can't think of a correct arguement right now because I hate it every time someone complaints in the newspaper and a game gets banned here. Well there is always Uncle Ho's place to sell Jack Sparrow-ed version.. but they are curbing it as well.
